Climate & Best Time to Visit Interlaken
Interlaken sits at 568 m above sea level in a sheltered valley between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. This unique position between two lakes provides a relatively mild climate with four distinct seasons.

Spring (March–May)
Average daily temperatures of 1 to 19 °C — coldest at night in March, warmest by day in May. Snow melts on the surrounding mountains, nature awakens — an ideal time for early hikes with fewer tourists. The funicular to Harder Kulm runs from the start of April — its own page gives the exact operating window.
Summer (June–August)
Peak season with average daily temperatures of 12 to 25 °C and long days (sunrise ~05:30, sunset ~21:15). Perfect for paragliding, hiking, swimming in the lakes and all outdoor activities. Occasional afternoon thunderstorms are normal — a quick check of the forecast above helps with day planning.
Autumn (September–November)
Average daily temperatures of 1 to 19 °C with particularly clear light — ideal for photography and mountain panoramas. Fewer tourists, autumn foliage. From October it gets cooler and the first snowflakes fall on the peaks.
Winter (December–February)
Average daily temperatures of −3 to 6 °C in the valley. Higher elevations (Grindelwald, Wengen, Mürren) offer excellent skiing conditions. The Jungfrau Region has over 200 km of pistes. The valley can be foggy — the mountain stations are often above the fog layer.

The weather on the peaks (Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn) can differ dramatically from the valley — expect 10–15 °C less and stronger winds. Always pack a warm layer, even in summer, if you are going above 2,000 m.
