The wooden jetty is where the K-drama Crash Landing on You filmed its piano scene, and it is the reason the coaches come. Since 2023 it has a turnstile: CHF 5 for access, payable in Swiss coins — 5, 2 and 1 franc pieces — or by card, according to the municipality of Iseltwald, checked 19 August 2026. The public toilet by the bus stop takes CHF 1 on the same terms.
The fee is not a tourist trap, and the figures say so. The municipality's 2024 accounts book CHF 244'709.52 under «Benützungsgebühren Steg» — pier usage fees — against CHF 171'287 the year before and a budget of CHF 110'000. A village of a few hundred residents was absorbing coach groups all summer; the turnstile is what pays for handling them.
What else is there — and it is the better half
Almost everyone arrives, photographs the pier and leaves within the hour. That is a shame, because the walk out along the shore towards the Giessbach Falls stays close to the water the whole way and is the reason to give Iseltwald half a day rather than an hour. The peninsula itself has a small harbour, a handful of houses and a view back across the lake that costs nothing.
The village is also a boat stop, which is the better way to arrive if you have the time: the approach across the turquoise water of Lake Brienz is the sight, not the transfer.
Getting there
16 minutes by bus from Interlaken Ost to "Iseltwald, Dorfplatz", measured as the fastest day connection; the pier is a few minutes' walk below the square. The municipality's own page quotes 30 minutes, which is the slower routing — both are correct, they measure different buses. By boat it takes considerably longer, and that is the point of taking it.
When to come
Before nine or after six. In between, in summer, there is a queue at the turnstile and the photograph you came for has other people in it. The morning light also suits the pier better, which faces west across the water: early on the sun is behind you rather than in the frame. Out of season the village returns to what it is the rest of the year: quiet, and rather lovely.
