The pass that does not cover this
If you arrived in Switzerland on a Swiss Travel Pass, this is worth knowing before you queue. On the Stechelberg–Mürren section the pass travels free. One station further, on the funicular up to the Allmendhubel, it does not:
- CHF 16.00 return from Mürren, adults, checked with the operator on 19 August 2026.
- CHF 8.00 return with a Half Fare travelcard, a GA or a Swiss Travel Pass — and the same for children aged 6 to 15.
- CHF 39.60 return for the through journey from Stechelberg, if you are not already up in Mürren.
- Only the Berner Oberland Pass travels free. Children go free until their sixth birthday, and so do dogs.
The pass fare is exactly half the full one — this funicular treats a Swiss Travel Pass like a half-fare card rather than a free pass. All figures are valid until 12 December 2026 according to the operator's fare sheet.
Getting there: four minutes, and three changes before them
The funicular is the shortest part of the journey. Measured on the Swiss timetable for Thursday 13 August 2026: train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen, bus 141 to Stechelberg, cable car to Mürren, then up — 70 minutes in total with three changes.
- Every 20 minutes from 9am to 5pm, last ride up and down at 5pm — an early finish for a summer evening.
- Four minutes for the 269 metres of ascent above Mürren.
- The route via Lauterbrunnen and Grütschalp is the alternative to the Stechelberg bus, and the only way up when the lower section is closed.
Six weeks when only this railway stops
The maintenance windows of the two sections do not line up, and the difference is large enough to decide a November trip:

- 5 April to 29 May 2027
- 25 October to 11 December 2027
The first window runs seven and a half weeks, while the neighbouring Stechelberg–Gimmelwald–Mürren section closes only from 19 to 30 October that autumn. Travel to Mürren in November and you will reach the village and the Schilthorn, but not the Allmendhubel. That is why the comparison table on this site reads «Winter and summer» rather than «Year-round»: two operating seasons with two gaps between them, and the longer gap falls in weeks when the valley is otherwise open.
What is up there, and who it is for
The Allmendhubel is not a viewpoint in the sense the Schilthorn is; it is a family hill. The operator runs an adventure playground, the «Flower Park», a Flower Trail, a water maze and the Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel up there, with a children's sledging slope added in winter. Those are their own labels, not an independent assessment.
The honest verdict: with children this is the better half day than the summit — short, cheap, and there is something to do rather than only something to look at. Without children it is an hour's stop, not a day's destination. If you want the big view, take the Schilthorn and pay CHF 91.40 return from Mürren instead of CHF 16.00 — what you get for the difference is 1,063 additional metres of altitude.

Is the Allmendhubel covered by the Swiss Travel Pass?
No — and this is the first ride on the Schilthorn network where that shows. The Swiss Travel Pass and the GA pay CHF 8.00 return from Mürren, exactly half the adult fare, while on the neighbouring Stechelberg–Mürren section the same passes travel free. It is not the only ride here they fall short on, but it is the first one going up. The only pass that covers the funicular outright is the Berner Oberland Pass. The operator states a 20 per cent reduction with a Jungfrau Travel Pass across their whole network.

Is the Allmendhubel worth it?
With children, yes; as a viewpoint, only up to a point. At the top there is an adventure playground, a flower trail, a water maze and a panorama restaurant, plus a kids’ sledging slope in winter. If you want the big panorama, the Schilthorn is the better answer — but it costs CHF 91.40 return from Mürren against CHF 16.00 here. The Allmendhubel is the cheap, short, family-shaped part of the same network.
